A distinction is made between phospho-specific cytostatics, cyclo-specific cytostatics and non-cyclo-specific cytostatics. Because of their action, mutagenic (germ-killing), reproductive toxicity (danger to the foetus and influence on fertility) and carcinogenic (carcinogenic) side-effects may occur in case of exposure. Depending on the classification, hormones, monoclonal antibodies and other substances are also included among cytostatics.
The toxicity of cytostatics is well known and so are the associated risks.
